3 Ways to get through February

One of my favorite singers is Van Morrison. This time of year I keep hearing the lyric, “I can get through February”

Seasonal affective disorder (SAD) is a type of depression that’s related to changes in seasons — SAD begins and ends at about the same times every year. If you’re like most people with SAD, your symptoms start in the fall and continue into the winter months, sapping your energy and making you feel moody. Less often, SAD causes depression in the spring or early summer.

Don’t brush off that yearly feeling as simply a case of the “winter blues” or a seasonal funk that you have to tough out on your own. Take steps to keep your mood and motivation steady throughout the year.

 I confess I struggle every February with SAD. Over the years I have developed a little formula that ensures that “I can get through February”.


Get warm

If I can’t get to Florida I Get in front of as many fireplaces I can find. A tanning bed is good but age and quality of the equipment is important and remember “less is more”

Get moving

This is a perfect time to start yoga or that fitness program that you have been planning for another day. There are seven days in and someday isn’t one of them. We have teamed up with Well by Nature to stare a Yoga and Fitness program.


Get happy

Plan an event, get with friends, build a Dream Board.

Book a vacation, write down all your Blessings, start a journal, buy a very large book and don’t stop until you’ve read it, take music or art lessons. Book a Massage!

This year was a little worse than most so I went to my Doctor and she did a blood test that revealed that I was vitamin deficient so she prescribed some special vitamins. Maybe you should check with your Doctor just in case. – Terry Owens

Groundhog Day 1955

GroundhogI was going to turn five in August. I enjoyed being with myself most of the time but that was difficult because I was discriminated against for being four.

There was a large woods behind our house with a creek running through it with all kinds of creatures living there.

One of my favorites was Hubie. He was very fat with very small eyes and a nose that looked like a black rubber ball. His mouth made him look intelligent but I couldn’t tell you why now that I look back on our friendship.

My older brother Cecil was a very hard worker in my Father’s construction company so he took his savings and bought a brand new 1955 Chevy, It was very round like Hubie.

Cecil would take me for rides in the woods which was a blast and that’s when I first met Hubie. Cecil wanted to shoot him, (something about his shadow), but I talked him out of it saying that animals were people just like us. Cecil gave me a strange look while downshifting to get up the rise near the creek for the ground was still wet from the recent snow.

One day I asked Hubie how he acquired his name, He said there was an oldtimer that lived in a shack near the creek who was a blacksmith by trade. Folks would bring their horses and mules for him to put shoes on. Hubie said that one day while he getting a drink out of the creek a mule broke loose, and stepped on his hind leg and the blacksmith nursed him back to health. The oldtimer kept calling him Hubie and then the possums and squirrels picked up on it and it stuck.

The mule’s name was Mournie.

Sheila was Born and raised in Upstate New York where She attended The State University of New York at New Paltz earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology.  Her passion for helping others lead Her toward working with the developmentally disabled.  Over a period of 24 years She ran residential programs and took great pride in enhancing the quality of life of others.
Following Her move to Tennessee, She had a strong desire to further Her education in a therapeutic field. She attended the Massage Institute of Cleveland, graduating at the head of Her class.  After passing the Massage and Bodywork Licensure Exam, She became a Licensed Massage Therapist in  2015.

Reiki is a highly sought after treatment worldwide and is utilized in many hospitals.

Terry began Her Massage Career in 1994  as a Chiropractic Assistant in central Illinois and studied Neuromuscular Therapy at Logan Chiropractic College as well as becoming Nationally Certified in Therapeutic Massage in 1998.

In 2000 She was recruited by LifePath School of Massage, supervising student massages, as well as performing massage in their Clinic. When school was purchased by Dr. Knight it became Central Illinois School of Massage Therapy and Terry became Director of the school  from 2002 to 2004 as well as becoming a USUI method reiki practitioner.

In 2014 Terry moved to Tennessee to be closer to Family and is studying medical coding.
